On July 26, 1956, the Andrea Doria, with Norwood stylist Maria Gramm and her family on it, sank after colliding with the MS Stockholm. Over 55 years later, Gramm can remember specific details of escaping the ship with her family.

“Goodnight iPad” by Ann Droyd came out just in time for the holiday season. I imagine it was a gift under many Christmas trees as it was under mine. A fun book with great colorful illustrations and witty rhyming text, it parodies the children’s classic “Goodnight Moon” written by Margaret Wise Brown many years ago.

The Norwood High School Marching Band had a banner year in 2011, and looks to improve in 2012.
The Greater Boston Real Estate Board, in partnership with the Massachusetts nonprofit ACCESS, announced the creation of a $200,000 scholarship fund for students in Greater Boston. The first $120,000 in scholarships will be awarded this spring to students attending college in the fall of 2012 and will be based on financial need, academic achievement, leadership, extra-curricular involvement, and short written essays.

Deputy Police Chief William G. Brooks is leaving Wellesley to become Norwood’s new police chief.
Selectman Chair Barbara Searle announced the move at Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting.
The next chief of the Norwood Police Department will be William Brooks III, a veteran of the Norwood, Westwood and Wellesley police departments.
